Edward's Story
Life
Since graduating from the University of Puget Sound (UPS) in 1970 with a BA in history I have been involved with aviation. Entered the USAF as a 2nd Lt. and attended USAF Pilot Training at Williams AFB, AZ. After six years of active duty flying C-130's all over the world, I left the AF and worked for IBM as a marketing representative for two years before getting back to aviation. Little Rock, AR was my last active duty site and where I spent 2 years working for IBM.
General Motors Air Transport division hired me in 1978 as a co-pilot and I flew the Convair 580 and the Sabre 75A for GM for a year. During my last year in the USAF I managed to get married and divorced! Fortunately no kids. I left GM in 1979, and went to work for TWA. After nine months with TWA I was furloughed and managed to get a job with Eastern Airlines. After a few years with Eastern I knew the company would not last, so I accepted a recall by TWA in 1985, and watched the company painfully move towards bankruptcy. I left TWA in 1991, and was hired by Japan Airlines as a B747 first officer. I later became the first foreign national to be promoted to Captain at JAL on the B747. Great company and I loved working for the Japanese.
In 2001, UPS hired me as a B757/767 flight manager....captain, check airman and instructor and that is where I am today. UPS is a great and progressive company, which by the way got its' start in Seattle, WA in 1907. Throughout ...Expand for more
my Air Force and comercial flying career I have stayed involed with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for over 30 years and other community activites. That is one thing I love about UPS; the company is the largest corporate contributor to United Way. Since July of 2007 I have been assigned to fly the latest addition to the UPS fleet the B747-400 freighter and I am loving it!!
When I am not flying I love playing golf, running and traveling when I can. While living in Honolulu for 7 years, I manged to run three marathons and I still stay in shape today by running. Life has been great and I will be looking forward to retiring in the near future!
In 2006 I jumped the broom and married the beautiful Cheryl Cooper from New Iberia, LA. Cheryl is an attorney with a practice in Baton Rouge, LA. When I am not flying I spend most of my time in Baton Rouge with Cheryl and our beautiful golden doodle, Sake. When we are not working we both love traveling and doing community service work. In a few years I plan to retire and let Cheryl have all the fun working,
